Innkeeper's Picks for Dining in Whitewater
One of the most common questions we get as innkeepers is “Where should we go to eat?” For such a small town, Whitewater boasts an impressive number of tasty restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, and pubs. To help you decide, we’ve picked out some of our favorite spots for a bite.
The Black Sheep is Whitewater’s finest farm-to-table restaurant. Founded by a former UW-Whitewater business student with a passion for sustainable dining, Black Sheep sources its ingredients from local farmers and designs its menu based on seasonality. The wines, cheeses, meats, and vegetables you eat at Black Sheep very likely come from a local farmer. A highlight of the menu is their monthly meatloaf special, which allows diners to enjoy a classic American comfort food with a decidedly modern twist. Standard entrees include a variety of pasta, meat, fish, and burger options.
Most locals will agree: Fanatico is the best Italian restaurant in town. Their menu is filled with classic home-cooked Italian dishes like chicken piccata, eggplant parmesan, and spaghetti pomodoro. Fanatico is especially famous for their homemade marinara sauce. After your meal, choose a mouthwatering dessert from their case. We recommend the red velvet cheesecake or lemon cake with raspberry drizzle. With its warm ambiance, friendly staff, and affordable prices, Fanatico is a must for any visitor to Whitewater.
If you like beer, Second Salem Brewery is the spot for you. The dedicated folks at Second Salem brew a tasty and diverse range of craft beers on-site using the unique one-barrel “nanobrewing” technique. Many of their beers are inspired by local legend that Whitewater was once a haven for witches and werewolves. On the menu, you’ll find fun and tasty beer options like Black Mass Stout, Witchtower Pale Ale, and Bone Orchard IPA. They also offer a great food menu in their taproom that goes beyond typical pub fare to serve pesto salmon BLTs, veggie-packed Mediterranean salads, sweet potato fries, and sirloin steak.
Like Black Sheep, The Trout House at Rushing Waters offers a unique farm-to-table dining experience. Nestled within the lush natural beauty of the Kettle Moraine Forest, the Trout House celebrates local ingredients sourced entirely onsite from their fishery, smokehouse, and farm. They serve dinner, lunch, and a delicious Sunday breakfast.
Not in the mood to go out? Order in from Taco Fresco. They serve up all the Mexican classics along with original creations like fried avocado tacos, Asian steak tacos, and Moroccan chicken tacos. Best of all-you can have it delivered straight to our door.
