Sledding at Trippe Lake Park
Sledding is a beloved winter activity, but you need the perfect hill if you are going to do it right. Luckily, an incredible hill is waiting for you at Whitewater’s Trippe Lake Park. This hill is big, making it many Whitewater locals go-to stop for their winter sledding adventures. After a good snow, you’ll find many members of the community gathered to take advantage of the fresh powder. Sledding down the hill at Trippe Lake Park is a truly exhilarating experience. Some people even say it feels like flying!
Trippe Lake Park is located at 407 S. Wisconsin Street, a 7-minute drive from the Hamilton House Bed & Breakfast (20 minutes if you choose to walk.) The park was dedicated as a city park in 1958 in honor of Dr. James and Rosepha Trippe, often credited as the founders of Whitewater back in 1839. The centerpiece of the park is Trippe Lake, which was formed years ago as a result of a dam constructed to power the local sawmill. In the summer, the park is a popular spot for boating and fishing. During the winter, it is the ultimate sledding destination as well as an unbeatable spot for ice fishing. In 2009, the Trippe Lake Ice Shelter was constructed to offer shelter for ice fishers during particularly cold days. The Park also features open air picnic tables, a food preparation area, and well-maintained indoor bathrooms.
Start your sledding adventure with a hot complimentary breakfast served at the Hamilton House Bed & Breakfast. After a few hours on the hill, head back for tasty refreshments and an afternoon of relaxation in our warm and cozy common areas, which include a fireplace and a variety of fun parlour games. If all that sledding leaves you feeling a little cold, warm up in one of our in-room jacuzzi tubs or curl up in front of your room’s crackling fireplace with a good book and a glass of wine. There is simply no better way to spend a relaxing day in Whitewater.
